happy celebration of your arrival on this earth-day, my dearest darling diana! who knew it was from an explosion in the sky? but it makes sense of you being so otherworldly all these years. what other is human is so beautiful, so kind-hearted, so true?

get ready for birthday fete #2 come november. i hate to say it but your birthvideo put a little dent in my excitement about visiting NZ. are those giant space bubbles dangerous? and geez, is one pair of sunglasses gonna be enough for all those rays?

have fun today! don't get too wild with your best boyfriend of all time. xoxo

love you, love you, love you! forever!

happy birthday diana dear. Perhaps in New Zealand you have grown to fit over buildings and you can float like a giant on her back and follow the ocean currents home. whenever I hear that song, I am reminded of 6th grade and lucy, the australopithecus lady, our first humanoid like ancestor. my how women have changed. and my how you keep growing. I love you like tomatoes love basil.

Happy Birthday! Aren't you tired of New Zealand yet, sheesh! We should be playing capture the flag or at least a game of sexist charades.

I wrote you a birthday haiku. Like to hear it, here it goes.

You probably smell
lovely, now without you here
I might shit or tear

I'm not sure I fully grasp how to write a beautiful haiku but you are the only person I've written a poem to in, like, one lifetime. You know what? Barriers like 5-7-5 only restrict my release of poetic juices. Let me freestyle my appreciation.

Diana, Diana, what a wonderful thought
You help birdies not get caught
Sometimes the early bird gets the worm
in this case the early bird gets Diana to help pass on his...uh, species
um, hehe, what rhymes with Takahe
Kobayashi, Mr. Miyagi, or Socrates
Your philosophy of saving trees, milking bees, and putting Kiwi's needs in front of your own
Would make anyone proud to have you in their home

I hope you thought that was funny, it's late. I love you and miss you.
Happy Birthday! We are all so lucky to know you.

Kate #2 says she can't wait to karaoke with you when you return and Happy Birthday.

I'm a take that mic, Mr. Embellishment:

Girl you ouch-beautiful, holy cracker sensitive, and spinning-wheel intelligent.

I like the way you smell of it.

I'm telling it, you taking over the world.

Can I catch a ride on your curls?

Look-a-them pearls

Wisdom wrapped around your neck like a choker from seventh grade.

Haaaaaaay, let's get spade

Like those jokers back in the day

Wanna TP our house when we trying to play

sleep-over, or doing our home work.

What's this? Can I plug this in? Let's blow up my house and get my dad to sleep in.

Damn, my dad's got some tighty-whities. He get up in your grill like some dirty baby wipees.

Keep yo cool, try not to grin. We stayed up all night to write a paper we can both turn in.

And yes! You can borrow my dress. You can have whatever's mine, no more and no less.

You the best.

Happy birthday!

You are all such swell people, to say the least. I did not expect to spend my birthday with your love, loyalty, thoughtfulness and silliness wrapped so tightly around me, protecting me from the cold of this far away island--an achievement also attained by the birthday Snuggie my parents gave me. You guys are the coolest. You make me feel like an unstoppable Weta-machine hybrid, free to reign terror knowing that I got some bffs in USA ready to back me up. Sort of like the Order of the Phoenix, the Fellowship of the Ring, the Rebel Alliance, John Connor's Resistance, the Babysitters Club, the Carebears, the Cullens, the Looney Toons and Micheal Jordan, the Little Giants, the Traveling Pants Sisters, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, the California Raisins, Dr. Tooth and the Electric Mayhem, the Droogs, Al-Qaeda, the 1980 Olympic USA Ice Hokey Team, the Salem Witches, the Lollipop Guild, the Death Eaters, the X-Men, the Divas Live of 1998, and the Health Insurance lobby. Best friends forever! I love you guys.
